WORKSHOPS
Commedia dell’arte
Commedia dell’arte, or “professional comedy” is a rigorous training for the body, voice, and mind. In this workshop, we’ll explore traditional character types, mask and improvisation technique, and learn how the techniques can be applied to any performance style.
Clown
Clown training does not have to be painful! My workshops lead students through a journey of opening up their bodies and minds to the innocence and vulnerability of the clown. Physical ease will be established through Lecoq-based warmups and opening exercises. Joy and vulnerability will be found through game play, and technique will be discovered through “turns” in the red nose as students learn how to interact with props, other clowns onstage, as well as the audience!
Physical Theatre
Physical Theatre, by definition, privileges the moving body and the resulting images in the storytelling. In this workshop, students learn how the whole body can act as a theatrical signifier, train their bodies, and expand their limitations of what can physically be done onstage.
Devising
Ensemble or solo devising can be a daunting task. In this workshop, not only will I share some of their approaches I have used during the process of building a devised work, but we might discover new ones together! Using play, improvisation, and free writing, we will access the group’s thematic pulse, and then work together to stage an original piece that embodies these ideas.
